Welcome to Rockford, Illinois
The third-largest city in Illinois, Rockford is a community of a quarter of a million people and is repeatedly one of the most affordable housing markets in the country. It serves as the business and health center for northwest Illinois, and its location offers easy access to Chicago, Madison and Milwaukee.
Developed along the Rock River, Rockford has an active park district with over 10,000 acres of park and forest preserves, 25 miles of interconnecting trails and a dozen golf courses. Museums and numerous entertainment groups present an assortment of recreational and cultural events for all ages.
Serving most of the students in the area is Rockford Public Schools, District No. 205, which is responsible for educating almost 28,000 students. RPS has four high schools, five middle schools, and 40 elementary schools.
RPS has made a commitment to diversity and excellence. Many of its elementaries are magnet schools, empowering students to learn together about various cultures and customs. Other schools specialize in technology and science, arts, communication, global studies, a nature center, and investigative learning, as well as career-preparation.
Many local businesses sponsor an initiative, Business Education Together, designed to keep the needs and goals of the schools and business/industry aligned. A Parent Information Center is available to assist parents in choosing the best possible school for their child.
